The November holiday is short, and every day counts. A good family trip doesn't need a packed schedule. It needs a few right decisions before you travel: where to stay, how to get around, and how to keep each day calm for the children. This guide walks you through them one by one.
1. Know the November weather
Istanbul in November is mild and turning cool, with some rainy days, and it gets dark early. Plan outdoor visits for the morning and keep the evening for indoor places such as museums, covered bazaars and restaurants.
- Layers for the children; the air by the sea is cooler than you expect
- A small umbrella or light rain jacket in the day bag
- Comfortable walking shoes; many old-city streets are steep
2. Choose the area to match your plan
The area matters more than the hotel itself, because it decides how long you spend on the road each day. For historic sights, stay near the old city; for shopping and restaurants, Şişli and Nişantaşı; for the Bosphorus, Beşiktaş and around. Compare them in our family guide to Istanbul neighbourhoods.
3. Arrange transport before you land
Most flights arrive at Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), both far from the centre. With children and luggage, a pick-up that is already arranged makes the first hour much easier. On touring days, a private car with a driver saves waiting and changing between transport, and lets you stop whenever the children need to. See what to ask before you book in our guide to choosing a private driver.
4. Plan an easy day, not a full one
Two or three places a day are enough: one main visit in the morning, lunch and a rest for the children, then a short walk and a quiet dinner. Do long drives early and avoid crossing the bridges at rush hour. More in an easy day with kids in Istanbul, and for a day outside the city, see day trips from Istanbul for families.
5. Ask about the food before you sit down
If an alcohol-free restaurant matters to you, ask before you sit down: "Alkol servisi var mı?" — "Yok" means no. Ask for the written price list before you order, so you know the full amount from the start. Read how families can check a restaurant and how to avoid a surprise bill.
6. Know the payment and cancellation terms before you book
Ask whoever you book with: when do we pay, what is the cancellation rule, and is the price written for the whole family? At PARELO the answers are in writing: no payment before you arrive; half at hotel check-in, the rest one day before you leave. You can cancel with no deduction up to 30 days before arrival.
How PARELO arranges your trip
